VSTEP B1, B2, C1 Speaking Part 2: Solution Discussion

- Question:

You have to choose an environmentally friendly way of commuting. Would you pick electric cars, bicycles, or public transit?

- Answer:

I would choose bicycles as the most environmentally friendly commuting option. Bicycles produce zero emissions and consume no fossil fuels. They also reduce the need for vehicle manufacturing, a process that significantly contributes to carbon emissions.

While electric cars are a step towards sustainability, they still require energy - often derived from non-renewable sources - for charging. Additionally, the production of their batteries has an environmental cost. Public transit, although more efficient per passenger than conventional cars, can still contribute to air pollution, especially if the vehicles aren't electric or hybrid.

Bicycles also promote physical fitness and health, and in cities with good infrastructure, they can be a time-efficient choice. However, it's crucial to consider practical factors like distance and local weather conditions. If biking isn't viable, a combination of options like public transit for longer distances and walking or cycling for shorter ones could also be a sustainable choice.
