VSTEP B1, B2, C1 Speaking Part 2: Solution Discussion

- Question:

You want to adopt a healthier lifestyle. Would you start by improving your diet, starting regular exercise, or reducing stress?

- Answer:

I believe starting regular exercise is the best initial step to adopt a healthier lifestyle. Exercise has comprehensive benefits, which not only include physical health improvement, like weight control and reducing the risk of chronic diseases, but also enhancement of mental health by reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety.

While improving diet is crucial, it often requires more comprehensive knowledge about nutrition, and might be harder to stick to due to constant temptations. On the other hand, reducing stress is a more complex process, often involving a combination of several measures including exercise.

With exercise, one can start simply and gradually increase intensity, making it less overwhelming to begin. Also, it often leads to better diet choices and helps in stress reduction, making it a catalyst for the other two options. The key is consistency, not intensity. Starting with short walks and gradually increasing duration can lead to substantial improvements in health and wellbeing, and pave the way for further lifestyle enhancements.
