VSTEP B1, B2, C1 Speaking Part 2: Solution Discussion

- Question:

You are asked to recommend an initiative to make your city more environmentally friendly. Would it be a recycling program, a tree-planting drive, or promoting public transportation?

- Answer:

I would recommend promoting public transportation. Though all three options are highly beneficial, I believe that encouraging public transportation can have an immediate and substantial impact on the environment.

Compared to a recycling program, which depends heavily on citizen participation and can take time to show significant results, public transportation reduces the number of vehicles on the road right away, leading to decreased air pollution and traffic congestion.

Tree-planting drives are undeniably valuable for carbon sequestration and urban cooling. However, trees require years to mature and effectively fulfill their ecological roles.

Promoting public transportation can also encourage a cultural shift towards shared resources and community participation, which in turn can lead to increased support for other green initiatives like recycling and tree planting. It's a practical and efficient initiative that sets the stage for long-term, comprehensive environmental stewardship. Nevertheless, this initiative's success depends on the provision of reliable, affordable, and efficient public transportation options.
