VSTEP B1, B2, C1 Speaking Part 2: Solution Discussion

- Question:

Your university offers free courses for graduate students. Which would you choose? There are three options for you to choose: A time-management course, A public speaking course, or A team work course.

- Answer:

I would choose the public speaking course. This skill can not only benefit academic presentations but it is also essential for many careers. The ability to articulate ideas confidently and effectively is crucial for leadership roles, job interviews, networking, and more.

Although a time-management course could also be useful, I believe that it's a skill that can be self-taught and honed through personal discipline and various online resources.

The team work course is undoubtedly beneficial, but in university, many projects and group assignments naturally offer opportunities to develop this skill.

On the other hand, public speaking often presents a greater challenge to people, with many experiencing speech anxiety. Having a structured course to guide and support students in overcoming this common fear could be more transformative.

Furthermore, public speaking encompasses elements of time management and teamwork, such as structuring a speech effectively or coordinating group presentations. Therefore, in selecting the public speaking course, there's potential to indirectly improve other skills as well.
