VSTEP B1, B2, C1 Speaking Part 2: Solution Discussion

- Question:

You have to choose one study technique for the upcoming exams. Would it be group study, self-study, or hiring a tutor?

- Answer:

For the upcoming exams, I would personally opt for self-study. Although group study and hiring a tutor have their own merits, self-study offers a degree of flexibility and customization that the other options may not provide.

Group study can be beneficial for sharing knowledge and brainstorming ideas, but it can also lead to distractions and depends heavily on the members' compatibility. Meanwhile, hiring a tutor ensures personalized attention and expert guidance, but it's often costly and the learning pace is set according to the tutor's schedule.

Self-study, however, allows for personalization of study schedules and learning pace. It fosters independence and helps develop problem-solving skills, as you have to rely on yourself to find solutions. It also encourages active learning because you're not merely receiving information but actively seeking it.

While all three methods can be effective depending on the individual's learning style, considering the control and adaptability it offers, I find self-study the most suitable for preparing for the exams.
