VSTEP B1, B2, C1 Speaking Part 2: Solution Discussion

- Question:

You want to make your free time more productive. Would you learn a new language, start a fitness routine, or volunteer for a local charity?

- Answer:

While all three options provide productive ways to spend free time, I would choose to learn a new language. Learning a language can offer a myriad of benefits, some of which encompass the advantages offered by the other two options.

A fitness routine is certainly good for physical health, but learning a new language can also enhance cognitive abilities, improving memory, attention, and even problem-solving skills. Volunteering for a local charity can offer satisfaction and a sense of contribution to the community, and learning a new language can do the same by opening opportunities to connect with people from different cultures and backgrounds, enhancing cultural understanding and empathy.

Moreover, learning a language can also provide practical advantages, such as improving job prospects in a globalized world, and enhancing travel experiences by being able to communicate with locals. Thus, I consider learning a new language the most comprehensive way to make free time productive, delivering cognitive, emotional, cultural, and practical benefits.
