VSTEP B1, B2, C1 Speaking Part 2: Solution Discussion

- Question:

Your friend wants to create a new holiday tradition. Would you recommend a cooking contest, a gift exchange, or a charity event?

- Answer:

I would recommend a charity event. In the spirit of holidays, which is often about giving and spreading joy, a charity event is a beautiful tradition that could make a significant difference in others' lives. It provides an opportunity to help the less fortunate and build a sense of community, teaching valuable lessons about empathy and compassion.

Comparatively, a cooking contest or a gift exchange may indeed be fun and foster camaraderie, but these activities are more inward-facing, focusing primarily on the group itself. A cooking contest, though enjoyable and engaging, might create unnecessary competitiveness during a period meant for relaxation and unity. A gift exchange, while it can be exciting and heartwarming, could also inadvertently cause stress or disappointment depending on the value or appropriateness of the gifts exchanged.

A charity event, on the other hand, encourages us to look beyond our immediate circle and extend our holiday cheer to those who might need it most. It fosters a sense of unity and compassion, amplifying the true essence of holiday spirit.
