Cách sử dụng động từ arrive với các giới từ at và in như thế nào? Chúng ta xem xét các ví dụ sau đây để phân biệt cách sử dụng:

 

- Động từ arrive không bao giờ đi với giới từ to:

✗ She meets them at an inn before they arrive to the house.

✓ She meets them at an inn before they arrive at the house.

 

Arrive có thể đi với at hoặc in:

▪  Dùng arrive at khi theo sau là các danh từ chỉ địa điểm nhỏ vd: airport hay restaurant

VD: The scene in which Robyn arrives at the factory for the first time.

 

▪  Dùng arrive in khi theo sau là các danh từ chỉ địa điểm lớn vd: thành phố, quốc gia

VD: A delegation of senior French ministers will arrive in London today.

 

▪  Có thể sử dụng arrive at mang nghĩa định lượng: đạt được một mục đích hoặc một điểm nào trong một quá trình

VD: Quite independently, we all arrived at the same conclusion.

The court will arrive at a final decision next week.

Chú ý: Không sử dụng giới từ đi với home
