1.Why "go", why not "goes" or went? 2.Why "broke", why not "breaks " or "has broken"?

1.We sat and watched the sun go down over the horizon. 2. Have you ever been in a car that broke down late at night?

"go" because it's the infinitive form of the verb (without "to"). The structure is: watch + object + base/infinitive verb form. "broke" because the action happens in the past and "broke" is the past form of the verb.

No.1. Look it up in the dictionary. No.2.Looks like you need a break. Why for no.1 is look and no.2 is looks?
