my pencil SNAPPED AT THE END, so i had to borrow Amy's sharpner. is the phrase in capital right?

Is the phrase in capitals right? Yes, it is if it means the pencil broke in the end part of it. However, if it means the pencil finally broke after a long time of use, it should be "in the end."
