VSTEP B1, B2, C1 Speaking Part 2: Solution Discussion

- Question:

Your city plans to improve public transportation. Would they add more bus lines, build a subway system, or create bicycle lanes?

- Answer:

In my opinion, creating bicycle lanes would be the most beneficial improvement to our city's public transportation system. Bicycle lanes would not only promote healthier lifestyles by encouraging physical activity, but also contribute to reducing the city's carbon footprint, aligning with global environmental goals.

While adding more bus lines and building a subway system can indeed increase the efficiency of public transportation, they are both costly and time-consuming projects. More bus lines may still contribute to traffic congestion, and a subway system requires significant construction and maintenance.

Bicycle lanes, on the other hand, are relatively inexpensive to implement and maintain. They could also potentially reduce traffic congestion by encouraging people to bike rather than drive for shorter journeys.

However, for bicycle lanes to be successful, proper public education about bike safety and respect for bike lanes is essential. In conclusion, while all three options have their merits, I believe that bicycle lanes offer the most immediate and sustainable benefits to our city.
