VSTEP B1, B2, C1 Speaking Part 2: Solution Discussion

- Question:

You are asked to suggest a new sporting event for your town. Would it be a marathon, a swimming gala, or a cycling race?

- Answer:

I would propose a marathon for our town. Marathons engage a broad demographic, encouraging both serious runners and casual participants who wish to challenge themselves. The event would foster community spirit and promote health and fitness.

While a swimming gala might be enjoyable, it is more restrictive in participation. Not everyone can swim or has access to swimming facilities to practice. It would also necessitate an adequate public pool, which might not be readily available in our town.

A cycling race, although exciting, would require significant infrastructure modifications to create safe, temporary tracks. It might also exclude those who don't own a bike or don't usually cycle.

By contrast, marathons require minimal equipment – just a pair of running shoes. The streets of the town can be used as the running route without needing significant adjustments. With the right promotion, it could even attract runners from other towns, boosting local tourism. So, for maximum community participation and potential socio-economic benefits, a marathon would be the best choice.
